The Repository Policy of the Journal of Hematology and Clinical Research (JHCR) defines how authors, institutions, and funders may deposit and disseminate published works in open repositories. It ensures full alignment with SHERPA/RoMEO standards, OAI-PMH metadata harvesting, and the journal’s open access license (CC BY 4.0).

JHCR’s repository and archiving policies uphold transparency, long-term discoverability, and unrestricted non-commercial reuse of scholarly content, subject to proper citation of the Version of Record (VoR).

Scope and Applicability

  • Applies to all articles published under Heighten Science Publications Inc.
  • Covers preprint, accepted manuscript (AAM), and Version of Record (VoR).
  • Includes author websites, institutional repositories, and subject-based repositories (e.g., PubMed Central, Europe PMC, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, etc.).

Versions Permitted for Archiving

Version Permitted Repository Use Conditions
Preprint (before peer review) Allowed immediately upon submission to JHCR. Must include a statement that the manuscript is under consideration at JHCR and not yet peer-reviewed.
Accepted Manuscript (post-review, before production) May be deposited immediately after acceptance. Must display DOI of the final article once available and link to the publisher’s version.
Version of Record (VoR) Allowed immediately upon publication. Must retain the original formatting, citation, and CC BY 4.0 license.

Approved Repositories

  • Institutional repositories (e.g., Harvard DASH, arXiv, or university digital libraries).
  • Discipline-specific repositories such as PubMed Central, Europe PMC, ChemRxiv, and Zenodo.
  • National repositories and funder portals following FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles.
  • Personal author webpages and laboratory websites, provided that the link to the journal’s VoR is included.

Metadata Harvesting and OAI-PMH

JHCR is fully interoperable with OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) through its OJS system. Metadata can be harvested in formats such as Dublin Core, CrossRef XML, and DOAJ XML.

Metadata exposed via OAI-PMH includes article titles, authors, abstracts, DOIs, publication dates, and licensing information to support indexing and repository synchronization with platforms like DOAJ, CrossRef, and Scilit.

All published content in JHCR is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits redistribution, adaptation, and reuse with attribution.

When depositing articles in repositories, authors must cite the original publication as follows:

“This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.”

SHERPA/RoMEO Policy Classification

According to legacy indexing documentation, JHCR is listed as a Blue Policy Publisher in the SHERPA/RoMEO database, allowing archiving of both preprint and postprint versions immediately after acceptance.

  • Preprint: can be archived before peer review.
  • Postprint (AAM): can be archived immediately after acceptance.
  • VoR: can be hosted on the publisher’s website and linked freely.

JHCR encourages authors to store underlying datasets, code, and multimedia files in publicly accessible repositories such as Zenodo, Dryad, or Figshare, linking them within the manuscript using DOIs.

All supplementary materials hosted externally must reference the JHCR DOI and ensure long-term preservation (minimum five years from publication).

Embargo Periods

No embargo periods apply. Authors may deposit preprint, accepted, and published versions immediately after acceptance, in line with JHCR’s Gold Open Access model.

Discoverability and Indexing Integration

JHCR repository metadata is harvested by multiple academic indexing and discovery systems, including Google Scholar, Scilit, Dimensions, and Index Copernicus. The repository integration ensures seamless citation visibility and global accessibility for hematology and clinical research scholars.

Long-Term Digital Preservation

To ensure perpetual accessibility, JHCR collaborates with Portico for digital preservation and disaster recovery. Repository metadata is cross-linked with Portico’s archival system to secure permanent access in the event of system outages.

Author and Institutional Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate metadata and DOI linking when depositing versions in repositories.
  • Update repository entries if the article receives corrections, retractions, or Crossmark notices.
  • Include citation details, version information, and license terms in all archived files.
  • Respect data privacy and patient confidentiality when archiving clinical materials.

FAQs

Can I upload my article to my institutional repository?

Yes, immediately after acceptance. Ensure you link to the publisher’s DOI and include the CC BY 4.0 license.

Does JHCR allow sharing on ResearchGate or Academia.edu?

Yes, as long as the final DOI and citation to JHCR are clearly displayed.

Is an embargo period required?

No embargo period applies; all versions are depositable upon acceptance.

How can repositories harvest metadata automatically?

By using JHCR’s OAI-PMH endpoint provided via its OJS platform, which exposes Dublin Core and CrossRef metadata sets.

Does this policy apply retroactively?

Yes. All previously published articles may be deposited in institutional repositories retroactively, provided they include the DOI and license attribution.
