Ethical Standards for Authors
The Journal of Hematology and Clinical Research (JHCR) upholds strict ethical standards to ensure research integrity, transparency, and accountability in scientific publishing. All authors must adhere to the ethical principles established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), ICMJE, and WAME.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must submit only original manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere or simultaneously submitted to other journals. Plagiarism, duplication, or fabrication of data constitutes unethical behavior and will lead to manuscript rejection or retraction.
- All manuscripts are checked using iThenticate plagiarism detection software.
- Similarity index should not exceed 15% (excluding references).
- Proper attribution and citation of reused material are mandatory.
Authorship Criteria
Authorship must accurately reflect contributions to the research and manuscript. JHCR follows the ICMJE authorship criteria:
- Substantial contributions to conception, design, data acquisition, or analysis.
- Drafting or critically revising the manuscript.
- Approval of the final version before publication.
- Accountability for all aspects of the work.
Guest, gift, or honorary authorship is strictly prohibited.
Author Contributions (CRediT Taxonomy)
Each author’s role should be specified according to the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) system. Accepted roles include:
- Conceptualization
- Methodology
- Software
- Validation
- Formal Analysis
- Investigation
- Writing – Original Draft
- Writing – Review & Editing
- Supervision and Project Administration
Data Accuracy and Integrity
Authors are responsible for ensuring data authenticity and reproducibility. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data, figures, or images is unacceptable. Authors must:
- Maintain accurate records of research data and methodology.
- Provide raw data upon editorial request for verification.
- Disclose data sources and repository links in the “Data Availability Statement.”
Conflict of Interest Disclosure
All potential conflicts of interest (financial or personal) must be declared. This includes affiliations, consultancies, stock ownership, or funding that could influence the work.
Ethics in Human and Animal Research
Research involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki. For animal studies, authors must follow relevant institutional and national regulations.
- IRB or Ethical Committee approval number should be included.
- Informed consent must be obtained for identifiable participants or images.
Acknowledgment of Funding and Assistance
Authors must clearly disclose all funding sources and acknowledge contributions from individuals who supported the research but do not qualify for authorship.
Redundant and Concurrent Publication
Submitting the same or substantially similar manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is unethical. Duplicate publication discovered after acceptance may lead to retraction.
Corrections and Retractions
Authors are obligated to inform the journal immediately if significant errors are identified in published work. Depending on the severity, the journal may issue a correction, retraction, or erratum following COPE Retraction Guidelines.
Proper Citation Practices
Authors must reference all data, concepts, or words borrowed from other works. Misrepresentation of others’ research as one’s own is plagiarism and grounds for rejection or retraction.
Data Sharing and Open Access
Authors are encouraged to share datasets, materials, and code that support their published findings, provided this does not breach ethical or privacy agreements.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must safeguard the privacy of human subjects. Identifiable personal data should not be published unless explicit consent is obtained.
Author Responsibility and Accountability
Authors are collectively responsible for the content of their paper. Each author must ensure the accuracy and completeness of the work and cooperate with investigations of ethical misconduct, if any arise.
Consequences of Misconduct
Ethical violations—such as plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or breach of confidentiality—may result in manuscript rejection, blacklisting, institutional notification, or retraction.
